States Research Project

Here are some helpful websites to locate information on your state!

Take notes that go along with one of your 4 headings.  Those headings are: Geography, Important Cities, Attractions, and Fun Facts.

Moskauski Minutes

Good afternoon families!  Here is this week's Moskauski Minutes.  Remember that school is closed on Friday.  Wishing you and your families a happy holiday weekend!  :)

CURRICULUM NOTES:  The third grade is working together to complete a research project on the fifty states.  Each class has ten states, and the children are working in groups of two or three to a state of their interest.  This week we have done a collaboration lesson in the computer lab with Ms. Vetere and learned how to do research on the internet.  We have also had two lessons in the Media Center with Ms. Owen about how to find information in encyclopedias and books.  The children have had time this week in both the computer lab and also with exploring books and encyclopedias.  We are learning how to gather information, take notes and to sort the information.  We will be continuing to work in the lab and in the library over the next two weeks to gather our information.  I will post on our class blog some kid-friendly sites for researching.
In math we are continuing our study of fractions.  We will continue to explore equivalent fractions and work on comparing fractions.  Fourth quarter science is "The Human Body".  We have begun with looking at bones.  The children will be observing bones noting the shape, position, function and orientation.  The children will be making a model of a human skeleton.

INFORMANCE ON MONDAY: The students have worked hard and are excited to do their dance and music informance on Monday.  It will be held in the gym at 2.  Hope to see you there!

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS: New catalogs going home today.  Book orders are due by next Thursday.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:  I was SUPER EXCITED when I found this article on "Carolina Parent".  Please check it out!  Here you can find local projects in the Triangle for your family to do.  Remember, community service for fourth quarter will be due June 9th.

Backpack Buddies Spring Food Drive

Douglas is holding its spring food drive to benefit the Backpack Buddies program this week.  Students should bring in non-perishable items (no glass please) as you enter school in the morning and drop them off at our weigh station in the main hallway.
To “Pack on the pounds” any class who donates more than 75 pounds of food will earn a pajama day.  The class donating the most pounds of food will win a popcorn party.
Examples of food items you can donate are: canned tuna and chicken, canned vegetables, beans and fruit, soup, spaghetti sauce, fruit juice, crackers, pasta, mac and cheese, cereal, oatmeal, grits, rice and peanut butter.  Remember no glass please!

Together we can make a difference in the fight against hunger!
