Moskauski Minutes
Good afternoon families! Here is this week's Moskauski Minutes. Remember that school is closed on Friday. Wishing you and your families a happy holiday weekend! :)
CURRICULUM NOTES: The third grade is working together to complete a research project on the fifty states. Each class has ten states, and the children are working in groups of two or three to a state of their interest. This week we have done a collaboration lesson in the computer lab with Ms. Vetere and learned how to do research on the internet. We have also had two lessons in the Media Center with Ms. Owen about how to find information in encyclopedias and books. The children have had time this week in both the computer lab and also with exploring books and encyclopedias. We are learning how to gather information, take notes and to sort the information. We will be continuing to work in the lab and in the library over the next two weeks to gather our information. I will post on our class blog some kid-friendly sites for researching.
In math we are continuing our study of fractions. We will continue to explore equivalent fractions and work on comparing fractions. Fourth quarter science is "The Human Body". We have begun with looking at bones. The children will be observing bones noting the shape, position, function and orientation. The children will be making a model of a human skeleton.
INFORMANCE ON MONDAY: The students have worked hard and are excited to do their dance and music informance on Monday. It will be held in the gym at 2. Hope to see you there!

Multiplication:Can you believe it? Fourth quarter is almost here and we are one quarter away from being fourth graders!! The EOG’s are quickly approaching, and we are working hard to prepare!
At this point in the year, it is required that the children learn to memorize their multiplication and division facts. Multiplication and division are the building blocks for most of what we are learning for the remainder of the year, and it is also essential for fourth grade and later years. Please work with your child on beginning to study a fact a night, until they master the fact—then move on to a new fact. I will begin quizzing the children (each child working at his or her own pace) on their facts. You and your child can continue to access my class website for some fun, interactive multiplication games to practice with.
I am going to send home in today’s homework folder a multiplication log study sheet. Please choose one fact a night to study with your child. After your child has mastered a fact, they can then move on to a new fact. The children can study at their own pace, and choose whatever order they want to study in. At the end of the year, we will celebrate our hard work with an ice cream sundae party! J
Please sign the log sheet each night. I will check it each morning along with all homework assignments. Thank you so much for your support and cooperation!
Community Service: Community Service for third quarter is due by Friday. :)
Carnival Basket Donations:Ms. Bennett and Ms. Brown were thinking our class can make a summer/pool theme basket for our class basket for the Douglas annual carnival's. They are asking for donations of summer theme stuff (sunscreen, goggles, pool toys, Frisbees, Pullen Park ride tickets, Monkey Joe's passes, water squirters, sunglasses, etc.) Donations are due by April 10th. Remember all proceeds from the carnival goes directly to our school. Thank you for your donations!
